Sympoiesis is a simple word: it means ‘making-with.’ Nothing makes itself… Sympoiesis is a word proper to complex, dynamic, response, situated, historical systems. It is a word for worlding-with, in company.

sympoiesis studio draws on this worlding-with, through a creative praxis integrating theory, practice, intangible, tangible, form & feeling. This work is inspired by collaborations with the natural world, allowing emergence as the specific persons and elements come together. As a poet, I aspire to make ceramic pieces that Rilke might have enjoyed- dark, devotional, with strange but lyrical lines. As a ceramicist, I aim to write poems that prioritize forms sturdy enough to hold fragments of emotional tenderness, the griefs and joys of being alive.

dani austin

dani austin (they/them) is a ceramicist, poet, writer, collage artist, transdisciplinary thinker, and co-founder of Conspire Studio, where they offer creative process sessions and one-on-one creative coaching. Their poetry has been published in MAYDAY, and they have received support from Brooklyn Poets.

dani has a master’s degree in Sustainable Communities, a bachelor’s degree in Women’s and Gender Studies, and over 15 years of experience facilitating, teaching, and community organizing. They are from Northern Arizona and have lived in Appalachia the last several years.
